M.Ed. with Reading Specialist

Available to: All students
Includes: Reading Specialist Certificate coursework (with option to apply for MRT after becoming certified as Reading Specialist)
Courses may be taken in any sequence except for noted prerequisites and capstone courses. Each course is 3 semester credit hours. All courses are offered by UT Arlington.
- LIST 5325 Current Trends in Language Arts & Reading or LIST 5373, Foundations of Literacy in the Primary Grades
- LIST 5326 Teaching the Language Arts in Secondary Schools
- LIST 5345 Content Reading and Writing
- LIST 5346 The Writing Process (or LIST 5381 and 5382, Bluebonnet Writing Project Summer Institute courses which are only taught on campus) or LIST 5384, Advanced Writing Pedagogy (with advisor approval)
- LIST 5350 Literacy Assessment
- LIST 5353 Literature for Children and Young Adults or LIST 5354, Multicultural Literature for Children
- LIST 5361 Language Learning: Educational Perspectives
- LIST 5385 Literacy Research
- LIST 5316 Literacy Practicum I (80 hours of field experience) This course should be taken in the first or second semester of enrollment.
- LIST 5317 Literacy Practicum II (80 hours of field experience) This is the capstone course and should be taken in the last (or next to last) semester of enrollment.
- 6 Elective hours from the LIST area (Could include 2 remaining ESL endorsement courses, additional writing courses including Bluebonnet Writing Project, second literature course, or EDUC 5322.)
36 TOTAL semester credit hours
