The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSCH) Dental Branch offers an online Dental Hygiene bachelor's degree-completion program. The four course program (12-credit hours) is available only to students who have received their Dental Hygiene Certification from UTHSCH. The goal of the Dental Hygiene degree-completion program is to enhance the knowledge of registered dental hygienists by:
- broadening students' perspectives on the career of dental hygiene;
- increasing students' awareness of and ability to respond appropriately to current ethical situations;
- increasing students' knowledge of research and increasing their ability to comprehend and evaluate scientific literature;
- developing and broadening teaching skills that will enable graduates to engage in public and professional education, resulting in greater access to care.
The four courses are designed to raise students above the level of clinician. This program benefits students by not only giving them the gratification of completing a degree, but also by expanding their employment opportunities since many positions in the private and public sector require a bachelor's degree.

- Will I have to visit UTHSCH at any point? The Dental Hygiene degree-completion program will be offered predominantly using the Internet, but may include supplemental materials such as video/audio tapes and CD-ROM. Students will not be required to attend the campus at any time.

GETTING STARTED
Students who have received their Dental Hygiene Certification from UTHSCH should contact the advisor listed above to get started in the program. Students can take one or two courses each semester but must finish the program within 2 years.
